In keeping with the goal of promoting cultural diversity and integration, Culture Connect host annual St. Patrick’s Festival to encourage communities from different ethnic and cultural background to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on 17th March each year. This is an annual party that allows diverse cultures to participate in celebrating the National Day. The objectives of the gathering are:
• To gather participants from different cultural background and encourage them to join in the St. Patrick’s parade and to identify with the celebration of “Irishness”.
• To create an intercultural space where people from diverse cultures could meet, communicate and share their varying cultural traditions, food and entertainment in celebrating the day.
The party usually starts immediately after the Parade at the Barbican auditorium in the centre of Drogheda, showcasing samples of cultures/ traditions from different background, e.g. Irish, African, Asian and Eastern European. Fashions and/or dance, music, culture sharing, storytelling, tasting of different traditional food would be some of our main activities. The event is full of fun activities for children and also relaxing for adults. Friends and families of both indigenous Irish and other nationalities are encouraged to attend this festival.
